Principal’s Newsletter

November 19, 2008

Dear Parents/Guardians:

This is my last newsletter before our brief Thanksgiving break. Can you believe Thanksgiving is almost here (and then Christmas and the New Year)? The year is flying by. I am sure you will agree that Thanksgiving Day is one of the most wonderful holidays of the year – it means family, traditions, wonderful smells, laughter, and pies! In the midst of all the busyness that happens over this long weekend, I hope you will take time with your family to remember the true meaning of the holiday and to whom we are giving thanks.
A friend of mine recently told me a story about students being asked whom the Pilgrims thanked on that first Thanksgiving. Many of the children answered that the Pilgrims thanked the Indians! At CKS, we know and teach our students that the thanks went to God.
At next weekend’s Masses and all during the week, we will consciously be giving thanks to God for His many blessings to us. And our thank yous are music to the heart of our God:

Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything.
Ephesians 5:19, 20
God, in response, says “You’re welcome.” – “You’re welcome to be part of My family; you’re welcome to all the treasures that are given to children of the King; you’re welcome to receive forgiveness through the death and resurrection of My Son, Jesus; you’re welcome to talk with me whenever you want; you’re welcome to have the gift of the Holy Spirit in your life; you’re welcome to spend eternity with Me in heaven.”

That’s a lot to be thankful for! Our success in collecting for the Stuff A Bus campaign (1,293 items!), demonstrates that we are taking all these gifts from God and with a grateful heart, sharing them with others. And at CKS, this sharing doesn’t just happen at Thanksgiving time but throughout the year which makes me know that you and your children are living out God’s message of love in your everyday lives.

Give thanks to the Lord, call on His name; make known among the nations what He has done. 1 Chron. 16:8

With Joy and Thanksgiving,

RoseMaria Doran, Principal
